Hair fails?

Main Post:

Has anyone else tried to bleach color out their hair but it ended up kinda failing so u caved and went to a professional? For me I had professional black and blue in my hair. Black was super catchy after bleaching it and the blue barely came out. I didn't wanna be the only one embarrassed to go to a salon for help

Top Comment: As a stylist, this happens all the time. We get it, we are expensive and especially when it comes to a color correction. So people go do research and do it themselves. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s not. But no reason to feel embarrassed about not wanting to risk destroy your hair more and asking the professionals. Think about it this way, if you had a gross skin infection you were trying to treat and it got worst, would you be ashamed to ask a doctor for help? There are professionals for a reason!

Would you fire a fresh graduate that failed a hair test?

Main Post:

So I recently took and started working (for just a week so far) at a company straight out of college that does contracting work with companies that require hair drug testing. I did not know this at the time, but I did expect a drug test (urine). I never planned to do drugs past college, so that was fine with me.

From the moment I accepted the job (several months), I haven’t touched weed, and I could certainly pass a urine test but not a hair test yet. I feel I need to come clean to my employer before we book my trip to do work for a client (next month) so my company doesn’t waste the money. But understandably, I’m quite concerned that they’ll just fire me, in which case I’d be better off taking my chances with the test because there’s a chance I’d pass.

How do you think this would be handled at your company?

I wouldn’t give a drug test

But if I did I probably wouldn’t hire someone who failed

Couple months might be ok depending on how far they look back. Do a full body shave if your worried

Laser Hair Removal Fail: Is it Supposed to be this Painful?

Main Post:

Hi sisters.

I just attempted to have Laser Hair Removal done yesterday (it was with a Diode machine) - it did not go well. It was extremely, extraordinarily painful - it didn't feel like the snap of rubbers bands, or a quick burn or pinprick, but an intense burning flash of fire. I've traditionally had a high pain tolerance - I had a tennis ball sized cyst back in 2011, and they literally drilled into my cheek just to get a biopsy done, and I had no painkillers and little numbing.

The ladies at the office were so nice - they made a distinct effort to use my chosen name, and the office itself offered free drinks. I tried to power through it - they literally had wine available and I was like "YES". But it was just way too intense. I literally went home and cried.

But now i'm doing more research and learning that maybe there is hope after all - other types of laser hair removals are meant to be less painful, i.e. Alexandrite lasers. Has anyone else had any experiences with this? I have coarse, blackish brown beard hair and light but not too pale skin. It leaves a wicked beard shadow even when I shave and is the hugest part of my dysphoria, as I think I have a beautiful, feminine face, and it's just hidden beneath this hairy never-ending stubbles. If you have any advise, please share.

I have cried during and after every single laser session on my face.

Advice for when japanese hair straightening fails??

Main Post:

Recently i got japanese hair straightening (thermal reconditioning). And basically it just didn't work. I don't know how or why it didn't work, but my hair went back to its normal frizzy, wavy/curly state after washing it 3 days after the treatment.

I have had this treatment in the past at a different salon and my hair turned out perfectly straight so I'm inclined to think the stylist screwed up.

Since I had paid $600 I went back to this salon and asked what happened. She basically told me she could try to do the treatment again, but I am afraid that doing it a second time would make my hair fall out or something. This is not a very common procedure in America so I would love some advice on what I should do!! for how much I paid I'd love to see some solution to this!

Hello there! Know I'm replying late. You washed it too soon- that is all. Some salons recommend 2 Weeks+ (no touching, wetting/ washing, etc) I'd say generally- the longer the better. Some are not very knowledgeable about mentioning this..

No- you should be fine. Gentler JP treatment, not close to the roots, your hair shouldn't suffer.

I've had it done once myself and planning to re-do it, it was so wonderful, but washed it too early. Good luck!

What was your worst haircut experience?

Main Post: What was your worst haircut experience?

Top Comment: So I went to a local salon in my town. Everyone online had recommended this chick. I went in for a cut/color. She had to bleach my hair because I wanted 2 different colors. She left the bleach on so long that it fried my hair and hurt my scalp so bad that even brushing it for weeks after was a pain. Then she used this cheap crappy hair dye that bled all over my pillowcases and turned my face blue. And the cut was nothing like I asked. People still say she's the best but I let her know she's a POS hair stylist and went back to my regular salon where I've been happy ever since.

Reddit, what's the biggest hair disaster/fail that you've had?

I have the brightest red hair and in 9th grade I got this stupid idea to use temporary black hair dye for a school play. The problem is, my hair took to the dye so well that it wouldn't wash out. I was stuck with black hair. Even worse is my eyebrows were blonde and I never even thought about coloring them in. It was a disaster.

This happened in hair school and I wouldn't say it was entirely my fault but I guess that is for you to decide...

So I was toward the end of my time in school and I had been "out on the floor" taking clients for a couple months. A woman came in with very long, very dry looking hair and told me she wanted a perm. At this point I was already beginning to get nervous but I figure I might have time to talk her out of it.

For anyone who doesn't know, perms can be really harsh on your hair. Not a lot of stylists I know like to perform them because they take a long time to wrap, they stink, they can turn frizzy really easily, and they are super hard on the client's hair. I can't tell you how many girls have brought in pictures of Taylor Swift and expected me to give them a perm that will come out like her natural curls or her iron curls.

So this woman is sitting in my chair with her hair probably measuring 3+ feet long and she wants a perm. So I do a quick integrity test on her hair to see how strong it is and if it can handle the chemicals. I'm already predicting that her hair is too weak for the solution but I check anyway. Low and behold her hair breaks off in my hand.

At this point I have my instructor come over and help me talk to this lady about the possible risks of her hair falling out or breaking off or becoming SUPER frizzy and this lady is having none of it. So per school procedure we have her sign a waiver saying that we made her aware of all the potential risks and that it may not come out how she wants it and we are not liable and we're just students blah blah blah. She happily signs the waiver and sits back.

This whole time I'm freaking out because waiver or not I did NOT want to be the one responsible for fucking up her hair. I ended up going to the director of the school because I didn't feel comfortable performing the service and she told me to do it anyway or go home and lose hours. So I walked back to the chair and spent 2 hours wrapping a fucking piggyback perm on this lady and when I finally get her to the shampoo bowl, as predicted, her hair begins to break and fall out. My instructor and I worked for another hour and a half rinsing and styling her hair and when we were done it was.....horrific. To say it looked like shit would be a massive understatement. I was on the brink of tears and my instructor was stressed and exhausted but this lady was as happy as can be. She paid, gave me a big tip, and disappeared into the night.

Tl;dr: In hair school I am forced by my instructor to perform a perm on a client with long, brittle hair and she comes out looking like an ugly poodle.

I cut men’s hair. The only way to know is if they tell you. However, it’s not uncommon for mothers ( of 20-somethings) and wives to call and complain on their behalf.
